Hong Kong Racing Tips: Hong Kong looks a great Bet
TRAINER Jimmy Ting hasn’t found it easy saddling winners this season. The former assistant to Francis Lui has had only 26 victories, which is well down on his previous two years since taking out a licence.
It hasn’t been all doom and gloom for the yard however, with smart speedster Amazing Star winning the £450,000 Group 2 Sprint Cup at Sha Tin back in April.
One horse that Ting has finally got on to a winning mark is HONG KONG BET, who finally gets his chance to shine in the highly-competitive Division 1 of the Caine Handicap (2.45pm) over six furlongs.
After being placed in a Class 1 contest last season, this Australian-bred gelding found himself running off a rating of 90, and it’s only after a series of creditable efforts against better company that he finally finds himself back down to his last winning mark of 79.
Ting, whose stable have struck gold 10 times over six furlongs at the city track this season, must be confident about his chances, with the booking of Zac Purton eye-catching.
The combination already has a 25% strike rate and it’s rare the combination miss making the frame.
Hong Kong Bet was noted when finishing strongly behind Naboo Attack at Sha Tin last month and that was against much stronger opposition than he meets here.
With Purton taking over from a claimer, his chance is obvious and he can give his trainer a welcome change of fortune.
