Holders Sevilla close in on final after Viola romp
HOLDERS Sevilla established a commanding lead in their Europa League semi-final first leg after dispatching Fiorentina 3-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pijuan Stadium last night.
Winger Aleix Vidal Parreu netted in each half, the first after a blunder by Fiorentina keeper Norberto Neto, while French midfielder Kevin Gamerio added gloss to the dominant performance with a further strike with quarter of an hour remaining.
Sevilla entered the fixture with a perfect home record in European ties this term, although the Viola also boasted enviable form and were unbeaten in their previous 12 continental away fixtures.
But the La Liga side, who beat Benfica on penalties to win last season’s competition, look to be on course to reach this year’s final in Warsaw, which will take place on 27 May.
The other last four clash is less clear after Ukraine striker Yevhen Seleznyov cancelled out midfielder David Lopez Silva’s opener five minutes after half time as Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk drew 1-1 with Napoli in Italy.
