Highbury and Islington station evacuated after suspect package found on nearby bus
Highbury & Islington station was shut during rush hour this morning after reports surfaced of a suspicious package on a nearby bus.
An item of unattended luggage was found on the route 271 bus and police called to Holloway Road, north London at 8:39am, with specialist officers in attendance.
Cordons were put in place as a precaution, with the station and surrounding roads shut down while the item was assessed. Victoria Line trains did not stop at the station while the alert was underway.
However the Metropolitan Police have since confirmed that the abandoned suitcase was "non-suspicious".
Transport for London confirmed that the north London station had been reopened around an hour after it was initially shut.
