Henry to make Red Bulls bow against Spurs
ARSENAL legend Thierry Henry has confirmed his switch from Barcelona to New York Red Bulls – and is set to make his first appearance against old rivals Tottenham.
Henry, 32, is believed to have signed a four-and-a-half-year contract in the Big Apple after Barca agreed to release the France striker a year early.
“This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life,” said Henry. “It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.”
The Gunners’ record scorer, who only hit four goals last season, will team up with former Aston Villa forward Juan Pablo Angel and has been pencilled in for a debut against Spurs in a friendly next Thursday.
Cash-strapped Barcelona, meanwhile, have clinched a £130m loan from two of Spain’s leading banks to ease their cash-flow problems.
