Health secretary Sajid Javid makes ‘full recovery’ from Covid
Sajid Javid today said he had made a “full recovery” after testing positive for coronavirus a week ago.
In a tweet the health secretary said he had recovered from the virus and encouraged Brits to get their jabs.
“Symptoms were very mild, thanks to amazing vaccines,” he wrote. “Please — if you haven’t yet — get your jab, as we learn to live with, rather than cower from, this virus.”
Revealing he had contracted the virus last week, Javid said he was suffering from only mild symptoms.
But the positive case sparked controversy when Prime Minister Boris Johnson and chancellor Rishi Sunak said they would not self-isolate after coming into contact with Javid, saying they would take part in a pilot testing programme instead.
The pair were forced into a hasty U-turn following a fierce backlash, with Labour accusing them of trying to “dodge” self-isolation.
It comes amid a surge in the number of Brits being told to self-isolate by the NHS app as the so-called pingdemic sparks severe staff shortages for a number of businesses.
