Have the Utmost Respect at the Darley July Cup
Although the weather has put a dampener on the July Newmarket meeting, this afternoon offers an excellent final day card for punters to get their teeth into and Utmost Respect could be the value to land the feature Darley July Cup.
This one will relish the testing conditions and should go well at double-figure odds.
Zaahid from stall one has a great chance of landing the Ladbrokes Bunbury Cup at 2.35, while Grand Ducal will be hard to beat in the 2.00 at the July course.
Meanwhile, Mick Channon can claim the opener at Chester this evening with Candle Sahara, who has the perfect draw in stall one and can make all the running.
Proponent
Tomorrow at York, Proponent looks my idea of the winner of the John Smith’s Cup and, at 8/1, looks a fair price. Later on the card, Lake Windermere should be backed in the 5.00.
The First Test at Lord’s promises to provide great action and England, who made a solid start yesterday, are very much in the mix. But, in South Africa’s innings, Graeme Smith looks to have an outstanding chance of topping the innings and should be backed at 7/2 to be the leading batsman in their first innings.
All eyes turn to Royal Birkdale next week and there has been a big gamble on Sergio Garcia to complete a memorable month for Spain following the victories of Rafa Nadal at Wimbledon and the Spanish side at Euro 2008.
Although Garcia has a great chance, he’s too slim to be backing at 10/1. Miguel Angel Jimenez is overpriced at 66/1 with Ladbrokes and looks a great each-way bet in a tremendously open Open.
