Harrods revamp to see former glory escalator installed
Luxury store Harrods has announced a multi-million pound refurbishment.
The changes are centred around the installation of an architecturally-fitting escalator, which will cover all seven floors and is being designed by architects Make. It also includes restoring the listed stair light fittings.
The revamp is part of a push to aesthetically return the landmark store to its former glory.
According to the Telegraph, managing director Michael Ward said:
When Harrods' owners, Qatar Holding, took over the business in May 2010, they publicly declared their desire to 'upgrade the monument’ that is Harrods for all its customers.
This latest investment reaffirms their commitment to maintaining Harrods’ status as Britain’s greatest retail destination, and our customers can look forward to an optimised shopping experience.
