Greggs appoints Punch Taverns head as new chief executive
Bakery chain Greggs has appointed the chief executive of Punch Taverns as its new head, to take over from Ken McMeikan.
Roger Whiteside, chief executive of the pub group, will take up the role with effect from 4 February. He has been a non-executive director of Greggs since 2008.
Aside from Punch Taverns, Whiteside has held roles at Marks & Spencer, Ocado and off-licence chain Thresher, Greggs said in a statement this morning.
“Not only has he got considerable management experience in retailing and food but also, as a non executive director of Greggs during a period of significant change, he has been involved in developing the strategy,” Greggs chairman Derek Netherton said.
“He is very well respected within the company and his appointment will enable a smooth transition in what is still a challenging consumer environment,”
