Greek minister: budget vote is on a knife edge
THE Greek parliament could block budget measures vital to securing the €12bn (£10.6bn) in aid that Athens needs to stave off default in July, said the country’s deputy Prime Minister Theodor Pangalos.
He told a Spanish newspaper that the governing Socialist party is confident of victory on the initial vote tomorrow outlining general budget aims. But it could be defeated on passing the laws necessary to implement them, Pangalos said.
“That’s where we may have problems. I don’t know whether some of our Members of Parliament will vote against it. It’s possible,” he told a Spanish newspaper.
The government has just 155 deputies in a parliament of 300, with two of its own party already threatening to vote against the budget measures and one unsure.
