L&G Capital heads to Cannes to celebrate Media City UK deal – but no rest for Bill Hughes
Where better place to party after you’ve sealed a half a billion pound deal than Cannes?
L&G Capital’s top real estate investors were cracking open the bubbly last night at their annual beach party off the fashionable Boulevard de la Croisette after announcing it had snapped up Media City UK, the home of Coronation Street and BBC Breakfast.
L&G is now a 50 per cent shareholder in the Salford Quays-based media centre, alongside long-standing owner The Peel Group as part of a joint venture.
Illuminated in red, the tent off the beach was crowded with people knocking back cocktails and champagne. Everyone was given a “xylo” wristband that lights up in L&G colours when the music plays (used by Coldplay in their concerts).
But while his colleagues may have already hung up their coats, L&G’s head of property Bill Hughes said there was no stopping now, with the number of deals in the pipeline.
“There’s so much to do. That’s the reason I’m still stone cold sober now – I have been working solidly since 7:30,” he said with his first cocktail in hand.
Clearly no rest for the wicked.
