Google boss Sundar Pichai warns that internet freedom is at risk around the world
Sundar Pichai claims that the free and open internet is under attack in countries around the world.
The Google boss said that a lot of countries are restricting information and that the model is often being taken for granted.
Pichai argued in a BBC interview that artificial intelligence is more profound than fire, electricity or the internet. The Google chief has also said Quantum Computing as well as AI will further revolutionise the world.
“I view it as the most profound technology that humanity will ever develop and work on,” he said.
”Quantum is not going to work for everything. There are things for which the way we do computing today would always be better. But there are some things for which quantum computing will open up an entirely new range of solutions.”
Deeper issues with Google
Google have faced backlash over the years due to its various tax avoidance strategies. In 2017, the company moved over $20b to Bermuda through a Dutch shell company, in a strategy called ”Double Irish, Dutch Sandwich.”
Pichai confirmed that Google no longer uses that scheme and is ”encouraged by the conversations around a corporate global minimum tax.”
Pichai was also questioned about privacy, data and whether they have an effective monopoly in search. However, he made the argument that Google is a free engine, and users can go elsewhere.
