Golden Ferrari goes on sale in first gold-themed auction at Sotheby’s
A golden Ferrari is expected to sell for up to £450,000 as it goes on sale later this month at auction house Sotheby’s.
The 1977 Ferrari 512 BB, which has three previous owners, will be sold at the world’s first auction dedicated entirely to gold.
When bought by its most recent owner in 1997 the car had been repainted red and the brown leather interior changed to beige.
It was recognised in 2015 as only four 512 BBs ever made in this shade of gold, and sent for restoration in Modena, Italy.
Sotheby’s car expert Paul Darvill said: “The overall effect of the car’s unique colour combination of gold over a brown leather interior is both stunning and quintessential of its period.
“The car has had a wonderful restoration and is perhaps one of the most desirable Berlinetta Boxers available to the market anywhere in the world.”
The live sale will take place on 17 October, and the car will be exhibited from the 13th.
