Going to City A.M.’s mayoral debate? Why not play buzzword bingo? Here’s what the bookies think will come up on the night
Sadiq Khan and Zac Goldsmith go head-to-head in City A.M.'s Mayoral Election Debate on Tuesday night, but what will they say?
Never ones to miss the chance to turn a profit, bookies at Ladbrokes have made us offers on the big questions and key points coming up tonight.
The betmaker is confident that Labour candidate Khan will hammer home his humble upbringings. “Bus Driver” is the clear favourite at 1/20, but the bookie says Khan won’t dwell on the past too much. “Another blue-eyed blonde-haired old Etonian” is on worse odds at 5/1.
Jeremy Corbyn is also likely to be talk of the town, with Ladbrokes offering 1/20 that the Labour leader will get a name check. Ministers' payments will likely come into dispute, with "tax returns" coming in at 1/10. "Uber" is on 1/5, but it seems Tory hopeful Goldsmith and self-titled "business friendly" candidate Khan are less likely to take note of London taxi drivers, as "black cab" is offered at just 6/4.
When it comes to sensible debate, the betmaker reckons that Goldsmith's good breeding will prevent him from being too childish. It's 100/1 that the blue-blood from Barnes will throw his glass of water at his opponent, but Ladbrokes wouldn't put it past Khan, who's on slightly a slightly shorter 66/1 to do the same.
