German and French inflation rises as energy price fall slows
TWO OF the Eurozone’s largest economies saw an uptick in inflation last month, figures revealed yesterday show.
French inflation’s halted its decline, according to French statistical office Insee.
Prices fell by 0.1 per cent in March compared with the same month last year, Despite inflation remaining in negative territory, it is less of a decline than February’s minus 0.3 per cent. One of the main reasons for the rise in inflation was a slower decline in energy prices. Energy prices dropped 3.2 per cent in March, up from a 5.3 per cent contraction in February.
Inflation in Germany also climbed for the second straight month, according to Germany’s statistical office Destatis.
Prices rose 0.3 per cent year-on-year in March, after a 0.1 per cent rise in February. Excluding energy prices, prices were up one per cent.
Inflation for the entire Eurozone will be published tomorrow.
