General Election 2015 results: Senior source says Labour blames David Cameron for Scottish National Party’s surge
Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish National Party (SNP) is surging in Scotland.
A senior source in the Labour party blamed David Cameron for the SNP rise, telling City A.M. he had “manufactured an anti-Scottish grievance that clearly won over votes at the close of the campaign, and boosted the SNP.”
The SNP have so far beaten Douglas Alexander, who would have been the foreign secretary in a Labour government, and Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy. An SNP candidate also beat Liberal Democrat Jo Swinson, who served as a minister in the last coalition government.
They victories are coming on the back of some enormous swings of over 20 and 30 per cent.
