Gatwick and Heathrow get eggstremely eggcited about Easter as both airports forecast record traveller numbers
Eggcited about going away this weekend? You're not the only one.
Gatwick and Heathrow are both eggspecting to welcome a record number of travellers looking to get away for the bank holiday weekend.
Heathow claims more than 800,000 passengers will use the west London airport between April 3 and 6, “shattering” the previous record. The airport is deploying more staff, including 150 passenger “ambassadors” to cope with demand.
Meanwhile Gatwick anticipates an eggstra 11 per cent on last year, with 480,000 people due to use the south London airport.
The rise in numbers is no doubt in part to do with people feeling they can finally shell out on a holiday, with Heathrow forecasting a 40 per cent rise in families with small children travelling over the weekend.
Both airports are taking this eggstremely seriously, offering Easter entertainment and special deals across the four days.
Heathrow is running a digital treasure hunt, whereby passengers can download an app to follow clues and pick up a chocolate egg before they fly.
Children can meet and have their photos taken with Peppa Pig who will wish them “bon-voyage” before they check-in and there will be special free play areas where children can decorate their own eggs.
Heathrow’s restaurants will also offer special “kids eat free” menus, high chairs and fun packs in every terminal.
Valet and meet and greet parking users will find a pack of Cadbury’s Mini Eggs in their cars when they return back to Heathrow from their trip.

Meanwhile Gatwick is hosting a Mad Hatter's Tea Party on Friday (7am to 10am) in the South Terminal, where characters from Alice in Wonderland will give away free cupcakes and passengers will be .
Willy Wonka will be giving out 500 free Easter Eggs and 150 Golden Tickets, each containing a surprise gift.
There will also be two giant Easter bunnies on the loose, looking for passengers to pose for photos with and willing volunteers who will have their faces painted.
