Gary Neville ups ante in media battle with Gary Lineker with launch of Overlap Daily
Gary Neville is increasing the frequency of The Overlap’s football talk shows to daily in the latest move in his battle for eyeballs with fellow player-turned-media mogul Gary Lineker.
The Overlap Daily will launch on Friday and run every weekday thereafter, with a line-up that includes former players Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp as well as Match of the Day presenter Kelly Cates.
An announcement said the expansion “underscores The Overlap’s wider ambitions to build the world’s leading non-live football media platform”.
Neville will not be a regular presence on the daily YouTube show after the first episode but said: “We have wanted to create a daily show for some time now.
“There was a moment in the last year where a manager was sacked and we didn’t have a programme for seven days – at that point we recognised that we needed to go for it.
“The quality and profile of our incredible host line-up speaks to our commitment to deliver the best insights and debate on the biggest football stories, and we’ll now be doing this daily.”
The Overlap Daily launches with three sponsors already in place: long-time partner Sky Bet as well as protein drink brand Huel and football pundit-adjacent fashion brand Arne.
Neville and YouTube/Disney v Lineker and Netflix
It follows The Overlap’s majority buyout by media group Global earlier this year and a subsequent deal to show episodes on Disney+.
Neville will continue to host its flagship weekly show Stick To Football alongside regular guests Roy Keane, Carragher, Jill Scott and Ian Wright.
Lineker’s hugely successful podcast business Goalhanger, meanwhile, has a two-year deal to show his The Rest Is Football on Netflix following a successful run at the 2026 World Cup.
“The Overlap has created one of the most powerful football brands in the game by putting brilliant talent and genuine fan conversation at the heart of everything it does,” said Global CEO Simon Pitts.
“Overlap Daily takes that ambition to the next level, creating a place for the stories and debates that matter, every day, with an incredible line-up of the best football voices in the business.”
Other shows in The Overlap’s portfolio include Stick To United, a show dedicated to Manchester United and hosted by content creator Mark Goldbridge with Wayne Rooney.
