Gardening spend in the UK shows signs of slowing, survey shows
The amount people in the UK spend on gardening is falling, new research has revealed.
Despite the UK being a nation of garden lovers, with a third of people spending time every week gardening, total spend would appear to have dropped since Lloyds Bank Insurance carried out a survey last year.
Just 12 per cent of those surveyed by retailer The Solar Centre admit to spending more than £200 each year on gardening, compared to an average spend of £587 per household last year.
Plants were found to be overwhelming the most popular garden expenditure, accounting for 51 per cent of spend.
Tools were the second most popular purchase, accounting for a total of 15 per cent of total gardening spend.
Last year Lloyds report found that UK homeowners with children spent an average of £803 in the past year on their gardens, almost a third more than the national average.
