FTSE pulls Europe higher as Hammerson figures delight investors
As we head towards the close, the FTSE 100 is up 75 points, leading European bourses higher.
With US markets closed, and tomorrow’s inflation numbers failing to squash enthusiasm, the FTSE has sailed higher today, topping the 6700 level.
Alastair McCaig, market analyst at IG, comments:
It is not often that Europe struggles to keep pace with the bullish moves of UK traders, but today looks to be that exception to the rule.
Shopping mall operator Hammerson has led the FTSE risers today, reporting 2013 figures buoyed by increasing retailer demand. This optimism has also rubbed off on British Land and Land Securities, also two of the index’s biggest climbers today.
Royal Mail is sitting down with unions with a goal of creating a company charter – hopefully, that’ll mean fewer disputes and disruptions.
And RSA Insurance is aiming to raise £200m – and it’s on the search for a buyer of its Canadian businesses to make it.
