FTSE 100 index opens flat weighing Glencore gains against Sports Direct losses
The FTSE 100 index opened flat this morning, weighing gains made by Glencore and losses in Sports Direct and Old Mutual
The UK's top blue-chip index opened 0.44 per cent down at 6,099 points.
Old Mutual dropped 4.61 as the market opened, to 186.2p per share, while Sports Direct's share price fell 6.69 per cent to 621p per share as the company posting underwhelming first half results in which profits rose by 3.6 per cent in the last six months.

Of the miners, Glencore managed to gain some ground lost over the past few days, rising 9.72 per cent to 91.15p per share after it said it would make further savings to cut debt. Rio Tinto opened 2.21 per cent higher at 2,004p per share.

Meanwhile TUI was 3.93 per cent up at 1,166p per share, after posting strong first half results, despite the attack on tourists in Tunisia.
Centrica was also up 2.72 per cent to 211.75p per share after the energy supplier said it expected to spend less this year than the £1.05bn it had previously expected.
