Freud sorry for disabled wage row comments
LORD Freud, a government minister in the department of work and pensions, was forced to apologise yesterday for appearing to suggest that disabled people were “not worth” the full £6.50 an hour minimum wage.
Highlighting Freud’s comments at Prime Minister’s Question Time yesterday, Opposition leader Ed Miliband called for the former Labour adviser to consider his position in the government, as a flustered David Cameron replied: “Those are not the views of the government, they are not the views of anyone in the government. The minimum wage is paid to everybody, disabled people included.”
Freud made the comments at a fringe event during the Conservative party conference. He has apologised and accepted the comments were “offensive”, adding that everyone should receive the minimum wage.
