Former tech chiefs vie for government
TWO former silicon Valley chief executives are challenging for top political jobs in the US.
Republican Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard boss, is running for a seat in the US senate. She beat off other candidates to win the right to run against incumbent Barbara Boxer for the California seat.
And Meg Whitman, former chief executive of eBay cleared the first round of votes to stay in the race to replace the controversial Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor of the embattled state. She will run against Democrat Jerry Brown, who has previously held the post.
The Republican pair now face an uphill battle to persuade California’s moderate electorate that they have the best solutions to the state’s financial turmoil.
