The retired Premier League defender, who starred for London giants Arsenal and Tottenham, is hoping to win the Conservative nomination and will appear at a party hustings next month.
Campbell has long been a supporter of Tory policies and campaigned for the party during the general election last month.
This weekend he told Sun Nation:
I bring something new to the table. This is a whole new road for me, something I can get my teeth into but I just felt it was something I had to do.I come from a working class background, I wasn’t easy for me at all, but I worked hard. And now it’s about giving something back.
Native Londoner Campbell will face competition from Ivan Massow, MP for Richmond Zac Goldsmith, Andrew Boff and Stephen Greenhalgh for the Conservative nomination.
