Football looks to tighten bet rules
FOOTBALL Association shareholders will vote in May on proposals for a blanket ban on anyone involved in the top eight tiers of English football betting on any aspect of the game worldwide.
The FA Council made the recommendation ahead of this summer’s annual general meeting.
Current rules prohibit anyone placing a bet on a match or competition which they are involved in.
Tranmere yesterday sacked boss Ronnie Moore for breaching the terms of his contract, after the 61-year-old admitted an FA misconduct charge for breaking betting rules several times.
Last year Tottenham winger Andros Townsend was given a four-month ban and fined £18,000 for rule breaches.
