FOOD & BOOZE NEWS
FINE WINE AND BURGERS AT HAWKSMOOR
Beloved steakhouse Hawksmoor, which recently added a Covent Garden restaurant to its Spitalfields restaurant, will be making top-end wines available by the glass at both restaurants, and teaming them with classic dishes from the Hawksmoor menu in a series of tasting events over the coming months. Think lobster rolls with Montrachet, apple pie with Chateau D’Yquem and even sausage and egg muffins with Krug NV. The first one, on 14 March, takes place at Spitalfields and offers a glass of Cheval Blanc 1989 and a hamburger for £80.50. For the full programme, go to www.thehawsmoor.co.uk.
ST PATRICK’S AT CORRIGANS
Celebrate St. Patrick’s day in gourmet surrounds: Corrigan’s of Mayfair is holding an Irish Festival of Food from 14–20 March. Fiery (but genius, in our opinion) chef Richard Corrigan is going back to his roots and offering lunchtime punters a traditional Irish menu of three courses and a carafe of wine for only £27. The hearty Gaelic-themed menu is packed with heady, boozy dishes including oyster stout rarebit and guinness and treacle tart. The cheese trolley will also be entirely Irish for the week and include Milleens, Grubbeen and Durrus cheeses. Available 12–3pm, Monday to Friday. 28 Upper Grosvenor Street, W1K 7EH www.corrigansmayfair.com
MENU COMPRIS AT LUTYENS
London’s lawyers’ favourite restaurant, Lutyens on Fleet Street, is offering a menu compris that is seriously good value and the perfect antidote to any economic woes. Priced at £39.50 and available on weedays, the set menu offers three courses, half a bottle of wine, mineral water and coffee and petit-fours for the post-meal wind-down. Feast on Clare Island smoked salmon with soda bread, roast pheasant with creamed savoy cabbage and gratin of scallops, creamed leeks and parmesan, rounded off with vanilla bavarois with blueberry compote. Ideal for entertaining clients or an indulgent but affordable after-work dinner. 85 Fleet Street, EC4Y 1AE www.lutyens-restaurant.com
