LP FIZZ DINNER AT THE LANESBOROUGH
Champagne lovers with a bit of cash to put behind their passion should not miss out on this dinner at the super-swanky grand hotel. An eight-course menu designed by the in-house triple Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck will be matched with Laurent Perrier fizz. The classic zero dosage Ultra Brut and the Grand Siècle, LP’s prestige cuvee, will be among glasses of 2000, 1996, 1993 and the very last bottles of 1982. £250 per space. To book, call 020 7259 5599.
BRASSERIE JOEL OPENS FOR LUNCH
The recent re-entry into London’s food scene by legendary gallic chef Joel Antunes has been met with much delight, at least regarding the food. The venue, in the dingy Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, leaves something to be desired. But local workers should delight in such dishes as steak tartare with panisse and oxtail tortellini and slow-cooked lamb with lentil fondue. Delicious. £19.50 for three courses. To book, call 020 7620 7272; www.brasseriejoel.co.uk.
ALL HAIL BRITISH CHEESE WEEK
London is a cheesy hotspot with lots going on. Top picks include the excellent Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell, which is offering a special British cheese menu – think twice-baked Cashel Blue soufflé, English fromage blanc sorbet and grilled rib eye with tymsboro brique and cavolo nero. All-British cheeseboards can also be found at Canteen (courtesy of Neal’s Yard), the Draft House at Tower Bridge and the Blueprint Café. 25 Sep-3 Oct. wwwthecheeseweb.com.
