FOOD & BOOZE NEWS
• Cigar lovers should black out 28 November in their diaries, as Boisdale Canary Wharf will be putting their exquisite cigar lounge to good use with a vintage cigar auction. The auction, organised by the wittily named C.Gars Ltd., includes some very highly prized lots – July’s auction sold a selection of Dunhill Cabinetta for £7,500. The evening starts at 6pm with a champagne reception, with the auction itself at 7pm and a cigars, cocktails and canapés after-event from 9pm. As well as a superbly-stocked humidor featuring a range of high quality cigars, Boisdale of Canary Wharf has Europe’s largest whiskey bar and a big Scottish restaurant. • Fancy Apres ski without the snow? As a season of festive pop-ups gets into gear, we’re pleased that one of our favourites, The Well’s Christmas Swedish Lodge in Clerkenwell, is returning. Expect a Nordic wonderland of fake furs and glittery reindeers: Aquavit, a local schnapps, and ice-cold vodka a plenty to keep you warm along with classic Swedish sounds of Ace of Base, Roxette and Abba. Niblles include smoked reindeer and baby pickles; elk fillet tartare on rye; Swedish meatball brochettes with tomato fondue; soused herrings, mustard and dill; citrus gravid lax with pickled cucumber and rye bread; crayfish and dill polar bread cones; soft boiled quail eggs with herring roe; and onion, herb and potato cream tarts with keta caviar. See what we mean? Not one to miss. The Well, 180 St John Street, www.downthewell.com
