FIT IN THE CITY
IF you’re struggling to get your exercise mojo back after a lazy summer, why not try out a new class? I’ve picked four of the best the city has to offer this autumn, that promise to get you great results minus the workout boredom.
Beautcamp Pilates: Everyone who tries this class always goes back for more. Beautcamp is a new style of Pilates that uses high-tech reformer machines (more sophisticated versions of the Pilates machines that use heavy springs and high repetitions to get good results in little time). This class doesn’t just get you great muscle tone, it also does wonders for your flexibility too. Beautcamp has studios in both the City and the West End. www.beautcamppilates.co.uk
Tour de Bank: If you’re fond of short, sharp workouts, this 45 minute spinning class at the popular Gymbox at Bank is the one for you. Spinning does everything from boosting your cardiovascular fitness to raising your metabolic rate for up to 24 hours post-workout, so it’s definitely worth adding to your routine. www.gymbox.co.uk
Sweating in the Square: Just two miles from the Bank of England in leafy St James Square is this workout with a difference from the SW1 Gym. Taught by Sara Corriea, a pint-sized pocket rocket who’s just been crowned World Capoeira Champion in Brazil, this class includes lots of moves based on the popular art of capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts and dance for a very effective workout. www.sw1gym.co.uk
BMF: The original bootcamp class, British Military Fitness run sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at a Territorial Army base between Moorgate and Old Street! BMF classes are perfect for anyone who struggles to push themselves – they’ll bring out your competitive streak if nothing else. www.britmilfit.com.
