The first plant species to be “discovered by Facebook”
The "drosera magnifica" has become the first new plant species to be discovered Facebook.
The carnivorous plant, which can grow up to one-and-a-half meters in length, was discovered after a photo of it was uploaded onto the social networking website by amateur researcher Reginaldo Vasconcelos.
It was then identified as a new species named "drosera magnifica" by experts in an academic paper published in the journal Phytotaxa.
