Finn set to return for World Twenty20 despite being sideline for rest of South Africa tour
England seamer Steven Finn is expected to be fit for the World Twenty20 in March despite being ruled out of the remainder of his side’s tour of South Africa with a side strain.
Middlesex paceman Finn will miss the fourth Test in Centurion, which starts on Friday, as well as five one-day internationals and three Twenty20s as the focus switches to white-ball cricket.
The 26-year-old’s place in the Test side is set to be taken by either Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan or Mark Footitt, while Yorkshire’s Liam Plunkett has been drafted into the limited-overs squads as his replacements.
“Finn, who had been selected in both the ODI and T20 squads, will stay in South Africa for a week to begin his rehab before returning to the UK at the end of the series,” read an England and Wales Cricket Board statement yesterday.
“He is expected to be available for selection for the ICC World T20.”
Finn claimed 11 wickets as England secured their first overseas Test series victory since 2012. The tourists hold an unassailable 2-0 series lead against the Proteas, who were the No1-ranked side in the world, with a Test to spare.
