Fergie: Rooney needs to play
MANCHESTER United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed striker Wayne Rooney will start tonight at home to Cluj, despite already qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.
Ferguson believes Rooney could benefit from a run-out to maintain his sharpness ahead of Sunday’s vital Premier League battle against neighbours Manchester City.
“It has always been the case that Wayne needs to be playing games to get his match fitness,” said Ferguson. “He is a really strongly built lad. If he misses a game he needs three to come back.”
Ferguson also confirmed defender Nemanja Vidic will miss the Manchester derby as he continues his recovery from a knee injury that has kept the Serbian out since September.
