Fabregas denies remarks and commits to Arsenal
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas last night quashed reports that he plans to leave after becoming frustrated by a lack of silverware.
The 21-year-old, who helped Spain win Euro 2008 last month, yesterday denied making remarks linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
“I have not spoken to any media so it’s frustrating to read quotes that I have supposedly said about my future,” said the former Barcelona schoolboy.
“I think some people are just trying to make mischief but my intentions are very clear. “I am happy here at Arsenal, my future is with Arsenal and the priority is to achieve success and win trophies at Arsenal.”
Fabregas had been tipped to take over as skipper from the much-criticised William Gallas, but the French defender appears confident of retaining the armband.
“This season I know what I’m going to do and I’m ready to change my way of speaking to the players,” said Gallas. “You want to be the best captain and give good advice to your players, but sometimes you can make mistakes as well.”
Nicklas Bendtner hit four goals as a youthful Gunners side beat Burgenland XI 10-2 in Austria last night. Mexican striker Carlos Vela netted a hat trick, while Jack Wilshere, 16, grabbed a brace.
