FA defeats Hull Tigers name plot
HULL City fans will set off for Wembley this weekend already toasting a victory after the Football Association rejected controversial plans to change the club’s name to Hull Tigers.
The FA Council yesterday voted against Hull owner Assem Allam’s application – a decision that cannot be appealed. Campaigners City Till We Die hailed “a victory for the fans”, while the club, who face Sheffield United in an FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, said they would be making no comment.
Hull say more season ticket holders have voiced support for the change than opposed it. Allam, 74, may resubmit the plans next season and last night vowed to fight on.
“I owe it to the silent majority,” he said. “If the FA had approved it but the fans had said no, I would have severed my ties with the club.”
