Exiles may get points docked
LONDON Welsh could face a points deduction after being charged with fielding an ineligible player by the Rugby Football Union.
The Premiership club have been summoned to a hearing on 5 March relating to scrum-half Tyson Keats, who has played 13 times in the top flight this season.
Sale were penalised one point and fined £5,000 for fielding an unregistered player in 2009, while Leicester were docked a point for a similar offence in 2007.
London Welsh said they brought the matter to the RFU’s attention following an internal investigation into the signing of New Zealander Keats, 31, from Italian side Aironi last summer. The Exiles’ former rugby manager Mike Scott has also been charged by the RFU in relation to his involvement in the Keats deal.
