Ex-William Hill online boss Andrew Lee joins money transfer firm WorldRemit
The former managing director of William Hill Online has joined money transfer service and London-based startup WorldRemit.
Andrew Lee spent four years at William Hill, during which time he led the firm's online growth. Before joining the gambling group, he worked at Jefferies International, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Dresdner Kleinwort, among other places.
Lee, who announced he would be leaving the UK bookmaker earlier this year, will take up the newly created role of company president at WorldRemit. The startup said he will develop its global brand, and lead the expansion of the group's international operations.
"WorldRemit is growing and evolving quickly – in terms of the number of people using the service, its international partnerships, technological capabilities and employee base," Lee said.
"That makes it a very exciting time for me to join the team and share my experiences of other fast growing businesses and industries.”
WorldRemit founder and chief executive Ismail Ahmed said: "Andrew brings a wealth of experience, most recently from an industry that has gone through a similar, rapid evolution to the one that money transfers is now experiencing.”
WorldRemit has made a series of fundraising rounds over the last couple of years, after Ahmed founded the firm in 2010.
