Evans intent on resuming career after serving custodial sentence
FORMER Sheffield United striker Ched Evans last night reiterated his intention to prove his innocence and resume a professional football career.
Evans has submitted an appeal to the Criminal Cases Review Commission after spending two and half years in prison as part of a fiveyear sentence for rape.
The 25-year-old, who has always protested his innocence and claimed the victim consented to sex, released a self-published Youtube video yesterday.
“I am determined to continue the fight to clear my name,” said Evans. “Now that I have served the custodial part of my sentence it is my hope that I’ll be able to return to football.
“I would like a second chance but I know not everyone would agree. I don’t believe I have a given right to play again, but for any club to take me on I have learned a valuable lesson, I know that.”
Evans, who has 13 Wales caps to his name, moved to Brammall Lane in 2009 after starting his career with Manchester City, scoring 35 goals the season he was awaiting his trial.
