Eurozone construction declines for second month running
Construction output in the Eurozone has fallen yet again.
From May to June, output went down by 0.7 per cent according to Eurostat, the statistical office for the European Union.
This follows May's similarly disappointing result, when construction fell 1.4 per cent compared to April. Before that, the Eurozone had seen largely positive month-on-month results for 2014.
The cause of the recent decline was a combination of poor building construction output and civil engineering, which went down in June by 0.9 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.
At an annual level, the seasonally adjusted figures showed there has been a marked decrease of 2.3 per cent since June 2013.
Production in construction also fell in the wider European Union. Between May to June there was a decline of 0.3 per cent, while over the year there was a decline of 0.5 per cent.
Hungary, Spain and Romania experienced the biggest monthly falls in June, while over the year since June 2013, Romania, Portugal, Slovakia and the Netherlands went down the most.
