Eurostar suffers 11 new cancellations in wake of Channel Tunnel Fire
Eurostar has cancelled six services today due to "ongoing technical issues".
The delays will cause even more inconvenience for travellers after the Eurostar cancelled services on Saturday after smoke was detected in the Channel Tunnel.
A spokesman for Kent police said yesterday:
The fire was at the French end of the tunnel and is being dealt with by the French authorities.
The are no reported injuries. However, rail passengers are advised to expect significant delays whilst the vehicle is being recovered and fumes are cleared from the tunnel.
The smoke turned out to be coming from a lorry fire. Eurostar had hoped to resume all services today albeit with an hour delay. Eurostar has suspended ticket sales for Sunday in order to accommodate delayed travellers.
The company offered passengers on non-urgent travel a refund or re-booking within 60 days for travel within the next six months. Eurostar also offered hotel and food expenses to stranded customers.
Services began running at 8:00am this morning. Passengers, who were booked to travel today, were told by a Eurostar spokesman said earlier that they should check in "as normal half an hour before departure".
Six of the cancelled services were due to leave from London while the other five were set to depart from Paris and Brussels, according to Sky News.
