EU referendum: City of London Corporation boss calls Boris Johnson Brexit backing “unwelcome and unhelpful”
The boss of the City of London has called the mayor of London's backing of Brexit "unwelcome and unhelpful".
Speaking to Reuters, City of London Corporation boss Jeffrey Mountevans, Lord Mayor of the City of London, said Boris Johnson's position was "disappointing".
"The City of London is the leading international financial centre in the world. It is the most cosmopolitan major business city in the world and … a step backwards from an international position, which I think many would see this as, is unwelcome and unhelpful."
Evans said he believes that people want to see London's leading spokesmen being pro-Europe
"Britain's position as a major trading centre would, in my view, be harmfully impacted by a decision to leave," he told the newswire.
