Essex eye place in Division One
ESSEX cranked up the pressure on County Championship Division Two promotion rivals Hampshire yesterday, with victory by an innings and 79 runs just two days into their match with Leicestershire.
James Foster hit a stunning 132 as Essex posted 334 all out, in reply to the home side’s 138.
And Leicestershire could manage just 117 in their second innings, stretching their winless run to 31 County Championship matches.
Hampshire currently trail Kent by 380 runs with seven wickets remaining in their first innings with their match at the Rose Bowl due to finish on Thursday.
Essex play Worcestershire at Chelmsford in their final game of the season, while Hampshire travel to Glamorgan.
