Eriksson and Hodgson in running for Sweden role
SWEDISH chiefs have sounded out former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fulham manager Roy Hodgson about becoming national coach.
Eriksson, now director of football at Notts County, is the frontrunner and the country’s governing body the SvFF hope to make an appointment before the middle of next month.
However, Cottagers chief Hodgson, who enjoyed successful spells in charge of Malmo and Halmstads earlier in his career, is also in the frame.
Sweden are looking for fresh impetus after the departing Lars Lagerback failed to steer them to next summer’s World Cup, and the SvFF have already begun their search.“There is a special list of five to 10 names and Sven-Goran Eriksson is on that list,” said SvFFspokesman Jonas Nystedt.
“What the Swedish FA did over the weekend was to contact a lot of these people. We asked them what their situation was and whether they were interested in the job. Roy Hodgson is also part of the Swedish football family. I think he is on the list.”
Eriksson only began a five-year contract with the ambitious League Two outfit in the summer, but could seek to take on a dual role. “That is one decision that they will have to take,” added Nystedt.
