ENTREPRENEURS NEWS | IN BRIEF
BOOST FOR YOUTH ENTERPRISE EDUCATION
Youth Business International and the RBS Group are sponsoring Global Entrepreneurship Week this month. The event will involve over 200,000 participants around the UK and will involve schools, colleges and universities focusing on teaching enterprise skills. The week follows the recent trend of encouraging young entrepreneurs to build on their ideas in order to help boost the UK economy. Featured business leaders and entrepreneurs will represent companies such as Moonpig.com, RBS Corporate Banking, JoJo Maman Bebe, Lastminute.com, Etsy and eBay.
EVEN MORE YOUTH BUSINESS EDUCATION
Gazelle Entrepreneurs, created by Generator Enterprises, launches this week, headed by public and private sector leaders, whose main goal is to revamp the further education sector. The sector’s transformation will link to building and growing enterprises in the hope of inspiring young future entrepreneurs. “We need a new generation of entrepreneurs who will deliver the young, fast-growth, gazelle businesses that create the new jobs, wealth and innovation, and the further education sector plays a critical part in delivering on this,” said Doug Richard, founder of School for Start-ups.
VIRGIN SUPPLY BUSINESS MENTORS
Virgin Media Pioneers paired up three young entrepreneurs with three established entrepreneurs as part of the second phase of its mentoring programme last week. The mentors were founders from the companies Tossed, Firefly Tonics and Go Ape! The mentoring program, part of a larger campaign called “Control Shift: The Rise of Young Entrepreneurs,” encourages young people to make their ideas a reality. It was created in reaction to the current unemployment rate of young people and the government’s push for more self-starter businesses that they hope will boost the UK economy.
