Ennis-Hill plays down hopes for Olympic re-run
OLYMPIC champion Jessica Ennis-Hill has warned fans not to expect gold medal-winning heroics when she returns to the scene of her greatest triumph for this summer’s Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.
Ennis-Hill, 29, yesterday joined fellow London 2012 star Mo Farah in signing up to compete at the three-day meeting at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford in late July.
Following a break last year to give birth to her first child, the Sheffield heptathlete admits results this season are a secondary concern as she prioritises peaking at next year’s Rio Games.
Ennis-Hill said: “I want to perform well being back on the big stage in London but I will be realistic as 2015 is about the challenge of getting back to competitive shape after having my little boy and ultimately making the necessary progression to be at my best for Rio.”
She is yet to confirm which events she will compete in, having chosen the 110m hurdles and long-jump at the 2013 event.
The meet on 24-26 July comprises a two-day Diamond League event followed by Sunday’s final leg of the IPC Grand Prix Series, featuring Paralympic athletes.
