Eight fire engines and 51 firefighters tackling blaze in east London near Star Lane DLR station
Eight fire engines have been deployed to tackle a blaze reported on Bidder Street in Canning Town, east London, near Star Lane DLR station.
London Ambulance Service sent an incident response officer and a hazardous area response team to the scene. It is not known if anyone has been injured in the fire.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called at 3pm to reports of a fire at Star Lane. We remain at the scene."
The London Fire Brigade was called at 14:51pm and a spokesperson said 51 firefighters and officers are at the scene.
The spokesperson said firefighters are trying to establish what exactly is on fire. The service warned members of the public to avoid the area if possible. Locals have been instructed to keep doors and windows closed because of the thick, black smoke in the area, which can be seen from miles away.
