Eastenders star Danny Dyer turns Tube announcer, becomes the first person ever to reminisce fondly about changing trains on the District Line
Danny Dyer – cockney geezer, EastEnders actor, writer of surprisingly motivational tweets – has got a new string to add to his bow: London Underground announcer.
As part of EastEnders' 30th anniversary celebrations, customers at Bromley-by-Bow (the station that inspires the fictional Walford East) will today hear the voice of the actor reminding them to mind the gap, move right down inside the carriage, etc etc.
Dyer, who plays publican Mick in the BBC soap, reminisced fondly about, er, the District Line.
I remember I used to go through and get off at Mile End on the District Line and change to the Central Line to get to Stratford. It brought back some happy memories. So remember everyone – mind that gap.
If you're not going through Bromley-by-Bow today, never fear. EastEnders filmed him doing it:
Sandra Anderson, manager of Bromley-by-Bow station, said it was "fantastic that… our customers will be able to hear one of the most recognisable voices from the show telling them there is a 'right pukka' service on the District Line". That's if there is a right pukka service on the District Line, of course. If it's not, London Underground are going to look like a bunch of mugs…
