Dunelm family back at helm as chief exec quits
DUNELM’s former chief executive has returned to the helm of the homewares chain after the abrupt departure of Nick Wharton.
The furniture-to-kitchenware retailer said yesterday that Wharton, who joined four years ago from Halfords, was stepping down to pursue “a new challenge”.
Will Adderley, the son of Bill and Jean Adderley who founded the group in 1970, selling curtains from a market stall in Leicester, will take over the running of the business with immediate effect.
Adderley was chief executive for 15 years before stepping back in 2011 and becoming deputy chairman.
The news came as Dunelm posted full-year profits of £116m – up 7.3 per cent on last year – and a 7.8 per cent rise in total revenues to £730.2m.
