Downton actor Jim Carter stars as Hacks outshine Flacks in charity cricket match
City spinners showed up in their droves to take on journalists and ex-England international cricketers in the annual charity Hacks verses Flacks cricket and rounders matches at the weekend in aid of Chance to Shine.
Flacks from the likes of Deutsche Bank, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte and JLL all donned their whites to hit some balls, along with Downton Abbey’s Carson (actor Jim Carter) who bowled the first ball as he’s chairman of the Hampstead Cricket Club, where the grand battle took place.
Ex-England stars Devon Malcolm and John Emburey joined the teams, with Malcolm clattering a six out of the ground, narrowly missing Carter’s garden. Meanwhile Emburey was left red-faced when Pearson director Luke Swanson ran him out for 0. “There was an amusing moment later on when Emburey begrudgingly had to give Swanson one of the raffle prizes as his name was pulled out of the hat,” said one of The Capitalist’s spies.

In the end, victory belonged to the hacks – who batted to their first cricket victory in three years and maintained their winning title in rounders.
Whether this is a signal of which profession has more spare time to practice, The Capitalist would rather not say.
