Downloads to be ultra-fast at Virgin Media
VIRGIN Media customers can now download a high definition movie in just four minutes after the cable broadband provider increased its service’s top speeds to 152Mb, double BT and Sky’s top consumer broadband speeds of 76Mb.
Virgin’s ultrafast speed will not come at any additional cost for existing customers of Virgin’s fastest service, who will be upgraded as part of a rollout starting today.
The announcement comes as nearly 90 per cent of adults in the UK now have access to the internet, according to a report from the Office for National Statistics, causing a spike in demand for higher speeds as usage skyrockets.
“British households increasingly crave broadband connections that can cope with their huge demand for the web at peak times of day, when everyone’s at home and trying to stream their favourite TV shows or download films for the next day’s commute,” said Uswitch.com’s broadband expert Marle-Louise Abretti.
Higher speeds will enable the whole family to use the internet at the same time,” said culture secretary Maria Miller.
