Down the Tubes: Boris mucks in amid transport meltdown
(Laura Lean/City A.M.)
Boris Johnson has had an interesting commute in on the Northern Line this morning as the Tube strike over ticket office closures causes huge disruption across the network.
The Mayor spoke to commuters and Tube staff working at London Bridge – as well as some of the TfL staff volunteering at stations in their distinctive pink tabards.
At midday, TfL said around a third of Tube services are running, 70 per cent of stations are open and eight of the 11 lines are operational.

The Bakerloo line is currently closed, despite TfL’s hopes that it could run a service. On the plus side, Victoria line trains are getting through to Brixton, faring better than the original plan to terminate services at Victoria station.
A Transport for London spokesperson said around 200 extra buses – double the number initially announced – have been drafted in to supplement the usual service, which would normally see 7,600 buses on the streets during the rush hours.
The extra vehicles have been brought in primarily from bus firms in the Home Counties – meaning the green bus with Leeds City Transport on the side spotted near Angel this morning remains something of a mystery.
1/4 – Huge sympathy for everyone struggling to work. Nrthn line was ok but for many it’s tricky. #pointlessstrike pic.twitter.com/9J27USsKgL
