Doing a David Beckham set to pocket Steven Gerrard £6m from 18 month deal
LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard is expected to quash any hopes of a U-turn over his future and finalise an 18-month contract worth £6m with Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy this week.
The former England skipper, 34, underlined his enduring value to the Reds on Monday night by scoring both goals in a nervy 2-1 FA Cup victory over fourth-tier Wimbledon.
It was his first appearance since last week announcing a decision to end a 25-year association with the Anfield club when his contract expires in June, just days after his 35th birthday.
Gerrard is then set to move straight to Los Angeles to follow in the footsteps of David Beckham and join the Galaxy, halfway through the American season, where he will play alongside former Liverpool colleague Robbie Keane.
A £4m-a-year deal would put Gerrard on around £75,000 per week, the same as former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe at Toronto but less than half his existing £180,000 per week wages.
